Cheap Flights to tripoli

Overview
Known as the capital of the North, Tripoli is Lebanon’s second-largest city: from a regional trade capital for the past centuries, the city is nowadays the most impoverished of Lebanon and on the Mediterranean. The city has been scared by the violent clashes and conflict over the past 40 years and is confronted with significant development, economic, and security challenges. The spillover of the Syria crisis and the influx of refugees have contributed to increasing social tensions. Tripoli has however successfully preserved its spirit and authentic character: founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th century, and successively ruled by the Franks, the Mamelukes and later the Ottomans, the city is rich of its cultural heritage.

Climate
Tripoli's prevailing climate is the typical Mediterranean, with hot dry summers, cool winters, and some modest rainfall.

Sun worshippers will love the summers in Tripoli, which are hot and dry. Temperatures can reach over 33°C or 91°F and it can infrequently rain from April to October. Spring lovers and autumn seekers, these probably are the best ˋtimes to visit the Libyan city, Tripoli. Winters from December to February can be chilly so you'll need to pack a warm cardigan or lightweight jumper, especially when the sun goes down. January is the wettest month.

Tripoli Attractions and Activities
1. As-Sarraya al-Hamra (Red Castle)
Built in the 16th century on the site of a Roman castrum (fortified camp) by the Knights of St John of Malta and the Spaniards, the Red Castle was the accredited residence of the Turkish governors. Part of the complex is the Jamahiriya Museum and offices, but visitors can stroll through the intricate network of alleys and courtyards within the castle.

2. Jamahiriya Museum
Jamahiriya Museum is the biggest museum in Libya, with a great collection of chronologically arranged artefacts dating from the Neolithic period till date. Highlights comprise of the superb Roman sculptures and mosaics from Leptis Magna and the fine duplications of Saharan rock art all the way from the Acacus Mountains. The colourful VW beetle in the entrance hall was Colonel Gaddafi's during the lead up to the 1969 revolution.

3. Dar Yusuf al-Karamanli
A grand Medina house established around a central courtyard with colourful Turkish tile-work, the Yusuf Karamanli house offers an insight into how rich people lived here 200 years ago. The rooms consist of displays of period furniture, traditional dress, musical instruments and some household objects.

4. Arch of Marcus Aurelius
Arch of Marcus Aurelius is the only standing memory of Roman Oea, erected in AD163. The triumphal arch was excavated to the original ground level, which suggests that most of Oea lie buried under the Medina. The two main deities Minerva and Apollo of the city are clearly visible on the gateway, and by the side are a few carved blocks from a nearby Roman temple.

5. Tripoli Medina
Tripoli's Medina lacks the exoticism of Moroccan medinas and the bustle of Cairo's old city, but it makes for a pleasant and interesting afternoon stroll. The main entrance is on Green Square which leads to the Ottoman clock tower and numerous souks. The prime attraction is the Mosque of Draghut along with Sharia jamaa ad-Draghut leading to the Roman Arch of Marcus Aurelius.

Tripoli International Airport used to be an international airport which was built to serve Tripoli, the capital city of Libya. But due to the Battle of Tripoli Airport, it has been intermittently closed since 2011 and in the early 2018, flights to and from Tripoli have been using the Mitiga International Airport instead. It is located about 5 miles or 8 kilometres from the city centre.

Transport from Tripoli
Public buses do operate in Tripoli but they are hard to use: all the signs are in Arabic and the routes change frequently. The most popular and cheapest way to travel around town is by yellow-and-white shared taxi, which you can hail down by shouting out the destination as the driver slows down.

To step in Libya, a valid passport is needed by all nationals. You must get registered with the police in a week of arrival; your host company or tour operator can arrange this for you.
