Overview
Tobago is an exercise in beautiful contradiction. Pristine mangrove swamps and rainforested hills sit side by side with smoke-belching oil refineries and ugly industrial estates. Tobago has everything you would be expecting to experience in the fascination Caribbean island. With white sand and palm trees aplenty, yet it’s relatively unspoiled by the tourist industry. Combined, this twin-island republic offers unparalleled birdwatching; first-class diving; luxuriant rainforests perfect for hiking, waterfall swimming and cycling. The gas and oil industry leaves tourism low on the favourite list, so it’s your choice to take a deep breath, jump in and enjoy the mix.
Climate
The island of Tobago offers a soothing tropical climate due to its location amid the Caribbean, characterised by long periods of warm weather with heavy rainfall at certain times of the year, close to the Equator. Tobago is hot and a little humid with a maximum temperature ranging till 30°C, but the average is usually around 25°C.

No Man’s Land, a split of white coral-sand stretching out in front of the Bon Accord Lagoon. The name is as you’ve guessed, owned by no man. Tobago’s maxi-taxis have a blue band. Mostly, they serve locals and travelling can be excruciatingly slow. Tips for your stay in Tobago
- If you’re not into fighting for your food, then I recommend trying the conch instead – that is excellent.
- Not just have a beach vacation but have a community experience - Interact more with locals - live with them - share some words - eat what they eat.
- It is recommended not to bring a camera but to enjoy the experience - the flash might scare the turtles and they might get angry when someone would come near to their eggs.
- There is no malaria in Tobago, although other mosquito-borne diseases, including dengue fever, still exist. So, use insect repellent and try to wear long sleeves and trousers.
- Stay away from Manchineel trees as they are dangerous and highly poisonous.
