Berlin Attractions and Activities
1. History Lives
Berlin's origins date back to the 13th century. During the World War II, it became a central focal point and since then, it has taken on a new meaning in the modern era as a symbol of the reunification of Germany. Centuries of history live in structures like the iconic Brandenburg Gate, constructed in 1791 in the ornate baroque style.

2. A Vast and Vibrant Arts Scene
Whether tastes run to classical or contemporary work, there is something for everyone in the marvellous art scene of Berlin. According to your choice, you can find museums in one fell swoop at the Museumsinsel which includes 5 museums on the northern part of Spree Island, showcasing 6,000 years of art history from around the world.

3. Stay Out All Night
Plan the night out with your close ones and visit any of the basement bars which offer happening cabaret shows, massive Biergärten, punk bands and industrial dance caves like Berghain Bar and Panorama Bar. They both are nestled inside a former power plant with top-class DJs spinning the music.

4. Plenty of Green Space
There is a great deal of green space available to explore in Berlin, where almost a fifth of the city is planted with trees. There are more than 2,500 lush gardens and parks, such as Viktoria Park with its hilltop monument. It may not look like a haven for beach maniacs, but there are numerous places for so-called "wild swimming" in lakes such as the Tegeler See in the north of the city.

5. It's a Party Waiting to Happen
In spite of all the splendid culture and rich history, Berliners never take themselves seriously. The number 10 tram line is renowned for erupting into spontaneous partying in the wee hours when revealers are on their way home from the clubs. It's not uncommon for singing, dancing, and drinking to take place anywhere, any time in Berlin.

Tips for your stay in Berlin
  • Use your student card - In this student city, your identification card will come in handy to purchase meals, drinks, accommodation, and visit museums at a discount.
  • Take a free walking tour – New Berlin Tours run daily, informative (but long) walking tours that begin at the Brandenburg Gate and continue through the hot spots in town for about 4 hours.
  • Get the lunch specials - there are lunchtime specials during the week in Oranienburgerstr.
  • Because so much of the history is painful and tough to swallow in Berlin, the city has made many of their museums free to help as many people as possible learn about their troubled past.
  • Savour quite cheap street food - currywurst for under 5 EUR everywhere, kebabs, and quick pizzas, either - even the restaurants here are a bargain.
