Cheap Flights to athens
Overview
Athens, the capital city of Greece, is one of the most popular destinations in the world. The city was named after Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom and the famous Parthenon was her temple. Often referred to as The Cradle of Civilization, it is probably most famous for inventing philosophy and the ancient Olympics and originating the idea of democracy. Its recorded history stretches back 3,000 years. Today, Athens flights are packed with travellers flocking to tour the mythical, mysterious city.
In preparation of the modern Olympics in 2004, Athens built new roads and upgraded its transportation alternatives, making it easier for Athens visitors to get around the city. The airport is relatively new and getting around the city on the metro and railway is a breeze.
Spend a day touring the Acropolis, the Parthenon and the Temple of Olympian Zeus before settling in with the locals. Athens also boasts excellent museums. The National Historical Museum is housed in the old parliament building; the Numismatic Museum covers the history of coinage and the stunning New Acropolis Museum exhibits artefacts related to the “sacred rock”. Enjoy authentic Greek food in sidewalk cafés and take in a little bit of Greece at its best. Like their Iberian cousins, the Greeks take nightlife seriously. Dinner starts at 10 PM or later and a night out ends only at dawn.
Climate
March to May (i.e. spring) is pleasant and mild months, even if you have to pack a sweater for chilly March winds. Temperatures rise in June and July, reaching their peak in August. Temperatures are still fairly mild in the early fall months of September and October and begin to start to cool down in November. However, temps still average in the 50’s during the day throughout the winter months of November, December, January and February.

Athens Attractions and Activities
1. Visit the Birthplace of Democracy
Athens was once the world's intellectual and political centre. In the 6th century BC, it was Athens that pioneered democracy and let the people (well, some of them) make decisions. Visit the Pnyx (where city meetings used to take place) and opt for democracy tours.
2. Incredible Archaeological Attractions
Once you have relived the birth of democracy, heading to the Acropolis is quite essential. It boasts the iconic temple that towers over the city, the Parthenon, and few sites are as inspirational. But there's more. You can also visit the Roman Herodeion Theatre, Philopappos (the hill of the muses) and walk in the footsteps of Socrates in the ancient Agora.
3. Thriving Art and Music Scene to Discover
A city of artists and students, travellers from all corners of the globe are welcomed in Athens’ Breeder Gallery located in Metaxourgeio or Bernier/Eliades in Thissio. And if live music is your thing, you can catch traditional rebetiko artists at Stoa Athanaton pouring their hearts out for the appreciative crowd.
4. Fantastic Cultural Attractions and Vibrant Nightlife
These days, no other place than Athens is more relaxing and social where you can meet new locals and converse without any difficulty. Have a drink on the terrace at BIOS and watch the sun dip behind the Acropolis, then move onto clubs like Barouge or try your luck at the Regency Casino.
5. Wonderful Greek Cuisine
A paradise for foodies, Greece is a wonderful destination; Athens has many of the best restaurants of the country. Trapezaria and Funky Gourmet are the popular places where the kleftiko or moussaka never let you down, but street food like crumbly spanakopita will go down just as well.
