Distance to the City Centre
Most travellers arrive Istanbul via Atatürk Airport which is nearly 13 miles or 21 km west of the downtown area. The most inexpensive route into town is the bus route 96T (₺5), but the Havatas bus service (₺11) is much faster. Faster still is the Metro, which costs ₺3, but it's a 10-minute walk from the airport to the station. Taxis will cost around ₺60.
Transport from Istanbul
The first thing to do in Istanbul is to purchase an Istanbulkart, which works on metros, buses, and trams. It is known for offering much lower prices on all forms of transport but they may vary depending on the distance travelled. It becomes cheaper when more journeys are taken in a time span of 24 hours. The Metro and buses shut down at night. If you are stuck and need a ride, try the "dolums", a minivan system that runs all night and costs between ₺2-8 per journey.
Visa Requirements for Istanbul
Make sure that your passport is valid for a minimum 90 days longer than the duration of the visa. So, if you will receive a 90-day visa, make sure your passport’s validity is at least 180 days.
