Famous for its historic edifices and its bustling markets and bazaars alike, this city has something to entertain all kinds of visitors. Visit the Ethnological Museum to find out about the culture and the rich past of this city. The Museum is housed within Haile Selassie’s one time palace and includes some very elegant gardens. The St George’s Museum, dedicated to the country’s patron saint, is another fantastic place to spend an afternoon, as is the National Museum.
If you want to experience the vibrancy and the hustle and bustle of a traditional Ethiopian market, then the Merkato is one of the best places to go as it is always very busy. If you are art aficionado, do remember to visit the Asni Gallery.

Best Time To Visit
Most of the tourists choose to book their low-fare flights to Addis Ababa and fly to Ethiopia according to the weather. The rainy season in Addis Ababa tends to last from March to September, and the wet conditions can make transport a little slower. The dry season, which falls outside these dates, enables you to make the most of being outside in the city, though travel to Ethiopia can be a little more expensive in the drier months.

Addis Ababa Attractions and Activities
1. Fantastic Museums
The avid admirers, as well as those who are unfamiliar with Ethiopian culture, enjoy numerous museums dotted around the city of Addis Ababa. The National Museum of Ethiopia, for example, is a world-class establishment featuring artefacts from Ethiopia's storied ancient civilization to today.

2. Religious Architecture
Unlike a few capitals, Addis Ababa is home to inhabitants carrying different faiths, and various grand churches and mosques fill the cityscape. St. George's Cathedral is known for its beautiful paintings and mosaics, while the Anwar Mosque impresses with its size.

3. Entoto Mountain Hike
The surrounding landscape and the city itself is covered by the Mount Entoto towers. If you are one of those seeking to drink while admiring a special view should definitely plan a day hike up to the summit, which would take about half a day.

4. Amazing Cuisine
Ethiopian food is delicious, rich, and unique. The national dish features injera, an unleavened bread that is spongy and slightly reminiscent of sourdough. Various stewed veggies and meats are served on top of injera, and no utensils are used; all you have to do is scoop the food in the injera and enjoy!

5. Swarming Markets
Ethiopian clothing and crafts are magnificent, and Addis Ababa is a wonderful place to buy them. Many of the markets in the city offer hours of entertainment, if only because of the widespread practice of haggling with sellers.

There are hundreds of these dotted throughout the city: just hail one, pay a small fare and sit amid other commuters in the van as you get to your destination. When we talk about sightseeing and exploring the corners of the Addis Ababa, the most ideal way is to go on foot. It’s better as you can weave through the traffic and other pedestrians without any hassle.
